Terrific chaos flared when Cyclone Mandous struck Tamil Nadu. The Cyclone passed through the coast hauling the wind with a speed of 75 Km an hour. Four people perished away during the casualty. Let’s see 10 facts that arose during the cyclone.

  1. It poured laboriously in Chennai. The rainwater filled the earth up to 115 mm. There also had been a brutal blow of wind, smashing 400 trees to the ground. The wind picked up a speed of 70 kmph. 
  2. The Chief Minister MK Stalin informed the reporters that, had it not been for the advanced plans and preventive measures seized by the government, major damage would have emerged. It proved that advanced planning can handle any disaster.
  3. The cyclone commenced around 11:30 pm on Friday. Around 1:30 am, the cyclone passed near Mamallapuram, uprooting hundreds of trees in Chengalpattu and neighboring Chennai.

  1. In Kovalam, the boats were severely damaged. The shops had also been dilapidated.
  2. 13 domestic and 3 international flights were canceled at the Chennai airport due to nasty weather. 
  3. At first, the cyclone was rated as ‘Severe Cyclone Storm’, the fourth highest with a wind speed of 89-117 kmph. Then, the intensity dropped to several notches and the cyclone was rated as ‘Cyclone Storm’, with winds at 62-88 kmph.

  1. The Tamil Nadu government has spread out National Disaster Response Force in 10 districts and more than 5000 relief centers in the state. In the Chengalpattu district, 1058 families have moved to the relief centers.
  2. Many parts of the south coastal and Rayalaseema district of Andhra Pradesh received heavy rain. The AP government reported that Naidupeta in Tirupati district received the highest and constant rainfall at 281.5 mm. 
  3. Being a member of the World Meteorological Organization, the United Arab Emirates named the cyclone. It is pronounced as Man Dous which means ‘Treasure box’ in Arabic.
