A racer woman filed an FIR against a 34-year-old man who was stalking her. The Chennai police arrested the accused on Tuesday, May 17. He has been identified as Chandra Haasan. The accused is a bike taxi driver from Puliyanthope, Chennai.
The 24-year-old bike racer Nivetha Jessica filed the complaint. It said that Chandra Haasan followed her on his bike for nearly 10 minutes on May 11 from the Ashok Pillar road to Adambakkam. He covered his face with a helmet.
“Firstly, I believed he was going on the same way. But shortly, I realized that he was stalking me,”
Jessica said, Nivetha is a trained motorcycle racer and a two-time national champion. She chose to pull over at the overcrowded Adambakkam metro station and encounter the man. However, he did not stop. “He rode away. So, I thought he had panicked. I then restarted my ride back and rode to my house,” clarifies the founder of Chennai-based Motorcycle Club of India. But that is not the only thing that happened.
When she got to the Adambakkam subway, the man appeared again and attempted to grab her phone. Moreover, Nivetha yelled at him, but he rode away fast.
He was shouting, “Yes, I will do this again.”
Nivetha did not note down the vehicle number. As the man’s bike did not hold a number plate. Following this, she filed a complaint with the Adambakkam police station. The police caught the accused after four days of inquiries.
“The police said that since the man covered his face and his bike did not hold a number plate, they will have to trace his route using CCTV visuals from different neighborhoods,”
