Due to the Covid-19 a lot of businesses have shut and many employees have lost their jobs. And here is an example of 5 chefs and a service professional who lost their jobs in Lockdown and have started a restaurant in Kollam.
All the 6 members lost their jobs in their 20’s due to Covid-19. They all worked as chefs in various restaurants and star hotels. They grouped together and started a restaurant named ‘Donal Duck’ in Kollam city with cuisines specialized in duck.
This is one of the restaurants in south Indian as well as north India which claims to have duck dishes. And it’s the main reason to attract the customers.
Arun is good at wiping the chicken cheese salad which is served with charm while Sandeep is quick at making date paste with garlic essence, which anyone would gulp like a small piece of halwa.
The restaurant is a profit sharing venture between them. The initial investment for the venture is Rs 20 lakh where in half the amount is a bank loan and the other half is borrowed from their dear ones.
The restaurant offers Duck biryani, duck Mappas, grilled duck, duck roast, duck tandoor and also other dishes made up of chicken, fish, beef and duck. Kollam is famous for a variety of fish dishes. Fish is a must in their daily meals.
In Kollam the fish is bought by the fisherman directly. The fish which has less bones and more meat is only used for cooking, says the chef . In case such fish is not available they don’t cook fish that day.
The restaurant also serves parotta and beef as its the best combo in the state. A non-veg meal is incomplete without parotta and beef fry.
The team is now looking for support from the Kerala financial corporation to repay their loans and remain firm in the market.
The 6 young and enthusiastic chefs are now confident about their work. After the 6 long months of lockdown it has been hard for them to stay at home without earning. Some of them spent all their savings. And some said it has been hard for them to not have a job and this has mentally affected them in many ways.
