Chennai Student Reveals Disturbing Account While Facing Sexual Assault From Uber Auto Driver

A Chennai-based student journalist from the Asian College of Journalism reported an incident on Twitter. An incident that makes women uncomfortable while travelling on public transport Ishita Singh wrote on Twitter stating that the Uber autorickshaw driver sexually assaulted her. As she stepped out of the car, he pressed her right breast.

This incident took place on Sunday night while Ishita was returning to a hotel with her friend. The girl immediately raised an alarm. She screamed and tried to stop the car. However, the driver escaped. The police officials reached the location after 30 minutes. But the girl couldn’t file an FIR because there was no female officer.

We live in a country where women’s safety is important. But there is no one to eventually help or safeguard it. In this incident, Ishita was standing outside the station. As women are not allowed inside at night,

Hence, Ishita wrote a complaint in the book that was kept outside the station. Although the auto driver is punisable as per the Indian penal code. The man thought he could just escape after committing such an act.

Before the police could do anything, Ishita’s tweet was all over the internet. People are demamding actions against Uber and the police. Some political parties have also visited the site to ensure the safety of the women.

Later on, the autorickshaw driver was arrested and his vehicle was seized by the police in Tambaram city. It is high time that women are given freedom and have the ability to travel anywhere in the world.
