Gaza-based militants in Israel orchestrated a rocket attack in the city of Ashkelon. It left at least 31 people dead and many others injured.
A 31-year-old Indian woman was also killed in the attack in the southern Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon.
A woman named Soumya Santhosh was from Kerala, the Idukki district to be specific. She worked as a caregiver to an elderly woman in Israel. She had been there for 7 years while her husband and son lived in Kerala.
While she was talking to her husband Santosh over a video call the rocket fell on her home.
The husband’s brother heard a very loud sound during the video call. Suddenly the phone got disconnected. Then they immediately contacted fellow Malayalis working there. They then discovered the incident.
The shelter that was set up was a minute away from their house. Unfortunately, Soumya and the 80-year-old elderly woman could not reach the shelter. The elderly woman survived and is in a very critical condition. Sadly, Soumya did not make it.
Israel’s ambassador to India Ron Malka also took to Twitter to post his condolences to Soumya’s family.
Thousands of Indians especially from the state of Kerala live in constant fear as violence continues in the region.
