Severe Action Taken Against Chennai School For Maintaining Caste Based Attendance

A primary school in Chennai was taken to task by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). As the attendance register of the school students was based on caste. However, they did not follow the regular basis of alphabetical order.

As per the Indian Express, the school teacher is responsible for this separation. And she was transferred to another school. As per the directions of the school, classes were carried out rotationally. While the school reopened last week. 

A school nearby MGR Nagar arranged students of Class 4 in different batches. These batches were based on caste and they called each batch on different days.

Inquiries were put into force against the teacher. However, the incident took place on 1st November. An investigation was initiated as soon as the officials reached the school. D. Sneha, The deputy commissioner of Chennai Corporation reported that the teacher was responsible for segregating the students. 

 “We have sought an explanation from the teacher, following which a formal inquiry will be conducted. Our officials checked the school, the students are now listed based on their alphabetical order. We have also notified all the schools which come under Chennai Corporation to list the kids based on their alphabetical order only,” she said.

 

According to the broadcasting, students belonging to a certain community attended the school on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On the other hand, others came on Monday and Thursdays. 

As the information reached the ears of the public. Most of the political leaders and activists humiliated the school management. They also appealed to authorities to take strict action. 

However, the school management made it clear. As the separation was not to show prejudice to the students. But it was for administrative objectives.
