This Famous Floating Bridge In Karnataka Damaged After Heavy Rain Fall

It’s been just three days since the inauguration of Karnataka’s first floating bridge. However, Giant tides started hitting the bridge and damaged it. MLA K Raghupathi Bhat inaugurated The bridge at the Malpe beach in Udupi on May 6.

The bridge partly got disassembled on Sunday due to cyclonic weather. It has also increased the question of safety aspects. Parts of the bridge were hovering in the water. But the leaseholder, Sudesh Shetty, said that they “detached the bridge to avoid damage” due to the cyclonic weather.

Rs 80 lakh was spent on this floating bridge. The tourism industry of the state will use the bridge to promote tourism. The length of the bridge is 100m and the width is 3.5m. And three entrepreneurs were responsible to build the bridge. The district administration stopped all water sports activities at the Malpe beach and St. Mary’s Island on Monday.

The incident took place a day after heavy rain hit several parts of Bengaluru, uprooting several trees, inundating several roads, and collapsing infrastructures across the city including the recently inaugurated Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, in HSR layout.
