It took 34 years for Roshan Singh to win Rs 2.50 crore at the Punjab State Dear Baisakhi Bumper Lottery 2022. Roshan hails from a village in Punjab’s Bathinda district. He has been purchasing the state government lottery since 1988. But he got lucky to win in 2022.
He runs a cloth shop and has been in the business since 1987 when he started out as an employee. He also had his eyes on the big prize. And has been buying lottery tickets continuously since 1988. Occasionally, he would win Rs. 100-200. But he was also hoping to hit the jackpot.
Roshan worked under different owners for 18 years. Finally, he opened up his own shop but couldn’t save enough to spend as he wished. However, Roshan’s wife wasn’t happy with him. He was continuously pushing his luck with lottery tickets. She couldn’t stop the man from his fixation on the prize.
All of a sudden the lottery ticket dealer called Roshan. They told him he had won Rs 2.5 crore at the Punjab State Baisakhi Bumper Lottery. But he initially thought it was a prank. It was only when the agent clarified that they were calling from the Rampura Phul Lottery Centre, that Roshan considered the once-in-a-lifetime odds.
Roshan said,
“I was hopeful that I would win one day, at least a small amount like Rs 10 lakh, if not more, But by God’s grace, we got the first prize. We weren’t able to sleep all night. After deducting all tax, we will get Rs 1.75 crore. God has listened to our prayer,”
Roshan plans on using the money to give his 3 children a future full of opportunities and eventually starting a new business.
