As an alternative attraction to the Chennai Rail Museum, the administration added an ICF Rail Coach Restaurant named ‘Chennai Express’, which is a train-themed restaurant with interiors of the same train which is well furnished by the IRCTC. The restaurant is the first-of-its-kind rail coach restaurant in Chennai, but the second such facility in India. The first rail coach restaurant, operated by IRCTC, is already in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Visitors to the museum can enjoy their scrumptious cuisines at the rail coaches, under one roof at Chennai Rail Museum.

Ambiance!

The Rail Coach Restaurant has the exact interiors of a train which comprises the ceilings with sparkling twists and light fittings enhanced with antique flavors on both the sides of the windows. And the modern art at the exterior coach is truly mesmerizing. Eventually, the restaurant is designed similarly to the ICF conventional coaches. The restaurant has well-furnished seating arrangements which can accommodate at least 50 – 60 people inside the rail coach and there’s also an open platform, which resembles the railway station platforms which has few tables for patrons who want to sit outside, they can enjoy your meal with a view of the fountain passing by.

The Food Varieties

The multicuisine menu card has been designed with food items which were traditionally served in the trains during the ancient times. And the names for the dishes served at the restaurant are given accordingly to the names of the cities. The food in the restaurant will thrill the food fanatics with its dishes. Eventually, It will impress the attention of the diners. They offer a variety of delicacies in Indian, South Indian, Continental, and Chinese cuisines.

The Rail Coach Restaurant, ‘Chennai Express’ is situated inside the Chennai Rail Museum premises. It functions six days a week, from 12:00 PM to 03:00 PM, from 07:00 PM to 08:00 PM.
