Shankar Mishra is a 34-year-old man who had been the vice president of Wells Fargo, a US financial services company in Mumbai. Wells Fargo hires an employee with the highest standards of professional and personal behaviour. But something happened which was so deeply disturbing to Wells Fargo that they had to fire Mishra.
In November 2022, when the Air India flight was flying from New York to New Delhi, an extremely disgusting incident occurred. Mishra was heavily drunk and was knocked unconscious. In his drunken state, he rose from his seat and peed on a passenger who was seated in front of him.
The passenger was a 70-year-old lady who abruptly jumped to her feet after sensing the warm liquid fall on her. She came across a man who was not in his senses and was peeing on her. She felt utterly disgusted and summoned the flight crew to shift her seat. The crew told her that they had no other seats. And they refused to allow her in the first class even though there were some seats available.
The crew asked the lady to have their seat till they cleaned up her seat. But the lady said that even after they had cleaned up the mess, the seat was still damp and was reeking of urine. She refused to sit on her seat and insisted on arresting the drunken man.
Mishra, on the other hand, sobered up and realised that he had made a grave mistake. He went up to the lady who refused to even see his face. Mishra apologised and pleaded with the lady not to complain to him.
The lady initially accepted the reimbursement for her shoes and clothes. But then, she refused to take the money and filed a complaint against him. When Wells Fargo came to know about Mishra’s hideous act. They decided to fire him.
The company said in a stated,
“Wells Fargo holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behaviour and we find these allegations deeply disturbing. This individual has been terminated from Wells Fargo. We are cooperating with law enforcement and ask that any additional inquiry be directed to them.”
Mishra then went on the run in December. He had turned off his mobile to avoid tracking. But when he made a credit card transaction in Bangalore, he was caught. His father, Shyam Mishra, stood up for his son. He stated that his son was falsely accused. There was no way that his son could sexually harass a lady.
He said, “This is a false case. My son hadn’t slept for 30-35 hours. After dinner, he might’ve consumed the drink given by the crew and then slept. From what I understand, he was questioned by airline staff after he woke up. I don’t think he would do it. She is a 72-year-old woman, she is like his mother. He is a 34-year-old man. How can he do it? He is married and has an 18-year-old daughter.”
If he has an 18-year-old daughter, then he becomes a father at 16. Mishra’s lawyer said that there was no eyewitness to the case. Hence, his client is falsely accused of extorting money from him.
